BIO

Frederike Migom (BE) is a Brussels-based screenwriter and film director. She completed her education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, before studying film in Paris.

Her debut feature Binti (2019) had its North-American premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and has since then been stringing together the awards and nominations, such as the Best European Youth Film in Berlin in 2020 and the Best International Children's Film at Cinekid in 2019.

Prior to Binti’s victory march, her short films also didn’t go unnoticed. Both Nkosi Coiffure (2015) and Malakim (2013) won awards and were nominated at esteemed festivals such as the Tribeca Film Festival and the Montréal World Film Festival.

At the moment, Frederike is working on an episode for the mini-series Lockdown (2020) and the children’s documentary BOOS (2020). Lockdown is a ‘corona-proof’ series that tells twelve stand-alone stories with each time two characters, set in prison. BOOS is being developed within the Ket & Doc framework and takes place in a children’s psychiatric hospital.

Meanwhile she is also developing two feature projects, including the film adaptation of the highly successful book Tegenwoordig heet iedereen Sorry (Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays) of Bart Moeyaert. Moeyaert has won many awards, including the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the world's most prestigious award for children's literature, and his books have been translated into more than 20 languages.

Nkosi Coiffure, 2015.
